Scheduling
All courses run for at least 18 hours. They can be delivered over three days in a row, within one week, or one day a week over three weeks. Start times vary to suit your business, and your instructor will confirm them with you at the time of booking.
Assessment and requirements
Learners are assessed continually throughout the course and at the end. This includes theory (multiple choice questions) and practical assessments, such as treating bleeding, trauma and medical conditions, and their CPR and defibrillator skills. All learners must attend all three days to qualify for assessment.
Learners must be 18 or over and have a good understanding of English. Refresher training must be completed within two years to keep the certificate valid.
Who needs a First Aid Responder?
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) guidance sets out how many occupational first aiders a workplace should have. It depends on the number of employees, the hazards in the workplace, the distance to medical care, and whether staff work off-site or in isolated locations.
